How Your Body Naturally Protects Your Teeth

Posted on 9/30/2019 by Advanced Dental Associates
How Your Body Naturally Protects Your TeethPracticing good oral hygiene prevents many dental problems. The body can naturally protect the teeth, however, a few of us sometimes forget to practice the best dental hygiene practices. Consequently, we fail to see the long-term effects of our choices.

Avoid Sugary Foods and Drinks

Sugar consumption mixes with the bacteria in your mouth, creating an acid, which causes damage to the tooth enamel. A sugary drink or food is our go-to for quick pick me ups. However, long term consumption in large quantities can cause dental complications.

Sugar-free Gum

Chewing sugar-free gum after a meal helps reduce the bacteria produced in the mouth. A stick of gum aids in the removal of built-up plaque. Just make sure you do not expect it to replace your toothbrush. The less harmful bacteria you leave in your mouth, the better your oral health should be.

Use a Soft Toothbrush

A soft toothbrush is gentle against the tooth's enamel, and will not cause further damage if already present. Brushing two times a day is recommended for keeping your teeth healthy. A harsh toothbrush could break down tooth enamel, plus damage your gums. The soft bristles of a brush are a safer and better choice for your teeth and overall health.

Regular Dental Checkups

Twice a year, you should see come in and see us for a visit. This routine will prevent damaging results to your teeth. The health of your teeth should be just as important to you as a visit to your regular physician. The health in your mouth directly affects the health of the rest of your body, meaning you need to keep both optimized to be fully healthy. A good, deep clean will ensure proper oral hygiene.
