What Are Water Flossers?

Posted on 8/22/2022 by Advanced Dental Associates
What Are Water Flossers?Water flossers, also called oral irrigators, clean between individuals' teeth and gums by using a steady stream of pressurized water to remove plaque, bacteria, and pieces of food. These can be used in addition to string flossing but are often used in place of string flossing. There are three main types of water flossers to choose between and the various options are outlined below.

Countertop Water Flossers

These water flossers sit on the countertop and plug in to a nearby socket. While these are heavy and bulky, they provide the highest number of pressure settings and large water reservoirs.

Cordless/Battery Operated Water Flossers

These handheld oral irrigators are battery-operated and have the advantage of being small and portable, making them especially great for travel. While they are lightweight, they are not as powerful as countertop water flossers.

Faucet Water Flossers

This type of water flosser attaches to the faucet and diverts the flow of water to clean your teeth. While it is conveniently located and doesn't require much clean up, it can be difficult to maneuver.

Water flossers also come in a variety of sizes so that individuals can choose ones that suit them best – this includes both wired and cordless options. Water flossers also allow individuals to adjust pressure settings to suit their preferences. This is especially useful for those with sensitive teeth and gums, since traditional string floss can be painful for them to use. Additionally, specific settings allow users to dislodge food particles that may not otherwise be reached.

However, water flossers aren't suitable for all people and users should consult with professionals before deciding to make the switch.
