Having a tooth extraction done, or a tooth pulled, is a procedure that can be necessary sometimes as an adult. While children are supposed to have teeth fall out and sometimes need them pulled, having them pulled as an adult can lower one’s self-esteem and confidence. There are several different reasons someone might need a tooth pulled as an adult and is typically a cheaper option than choosing to get it fixed. The trained professionals here at Advanced Dental Associates, have the crucial experience and knowledge needed to help you with a tooth extraction that is needed to maintain healthy teeth and gums.
Reasons for A Tooth Extraction
Our permanent teeth were designed for long term wear and damage. Essentially, our adult teeth are meant to last a lifetime. While most people associate having a tooth extracted as an adult means that you did not take the best care of your teeth, this is not always the case. Although it is more common that a tooth is extracted because it is extremely damaged from decay, there are many more common problems that people face that make it a necessity to have teeth pulled.
For example, a tooth may need to be pulled because of overcrowding, infection, risk of infection or the tooth can be broken and unrepairable. For most people, especially those without dental insurance, paying for a tooth to be pulled is much more financially feasible. This can cause some problems, though because an empty space is left where the tooth was that can cause the other surrounding teeth to shift, potentially causing many more problems.
What to Expect with A Tooth Extraction
During a tooth extraction, our dentists will give you a topical anesthetic around the area of the tooth that needs to be pulled. After the outside area has been numbed, the dentists here will give you a shot of a local anesthetic to completely numb the sensitive area around the tooth through and through, so you will not be able to feel anything.
In certain cases, they will give a stronger anesthetic to numb the whole body and “put you to sleep,” ensuring no pain during the procedure. It is not always a simple, short procedure because the tooth may be severely infected or hard to pull. In this instance, our dentists would assess the situation and choose the best route to lessen pain and shorten recovery time.
Our dentists will give you a thorough and detailed dental exam to make sure that every detail is accounted for and understood by the patient and dental staff. All options will be discussed and explained because we want to ensure that our patients understand exactly what needs to be done. Our skilled dentists can give you the help and guidance you need to become pain-free and have the beautiful smile you have always hoped for.
